Today a student requested that the library get a new magazine subscription to Blender. I'm not familiar with the magazine as a whole, but their list of the worst 50 songs ever is pretty funny.
There are some on the list that I actually like (48. Obladi-oblada, Beatles, 42. Sound of silence, Simon and Garfunkel, 41. We didn't start the fire, Billy Joel, 29. Breakfast at Tiffany's, Deep Blue Something, 16. What's up, Four Non Blonds, 14. From a distance, Bette Midler, 12. Kokomo, The Beach Boys, 6. Heart of Rock and Roll, Huey Lewis and the News, and, yes, I have a warm fuzzy place in my heart for #1), and a ton of guilty pleasures that I can't even admit to.
There's lots of funny stuff, too: "Pop albums can’t really have sequels" (Meatloaf's Bat out of Hell II) and It's Great-Uncle Disgusting -- from Canada! (Bryan Adams).
If you'd like to request magazine or book titles, just let us know, we'll try to get them in the next order!

Dodo, eight tracks...and keyboards?!
You'll tell your grandchildren, "When I was a kid we had cell phones and hard drives!" They will look at you, astonished, and ask, "What are those?"
These are two of the things that Dave Pollard thinks will soon be phased out in favor of better, smaller, faster, or cheaper technologies. Take a look at his blog for the other ten items (it includes classrooms!). Do you agree with Pollard? Will we see the end of meetings and email in our lifetimes?

Free software? Show me where!
According to PC Magazine, this list shares the best free software.
Here's a little teaser:
"We did the math: If you bought popular apps instead of trying their gratis counterparts, at the manufacturers' list prices you'd be out $5,183 and change! Why spend money when you can get what you need for nothing? Sometimes, you do get what you don't pay for."

Magazine subscriptions
We're currently deciding which magazine subscriptions to keep, and which to toss. Can't live without Seventeen? Think PC Gamer is boring? Want to save Time? Or get rid of Newsweek? Speak up and tell Ms. Hanneman!

PC Magazine's 100 Favorite Blogs
The staff at PC Magazine put together a list of their 100 favorite blogs. There are a lot of tech blogs on the list, gears and gadgets are heavily represented, but there are also plenty of music, gossip, style and fashion blogs. (Plus a few oddballs, like StrangeMaps.) Check out the list and see if any of the blogs are ones you want to read!
Also, don't forget that we have a subscription to PC Magazine (and 44 other magazines) in the library!
What is your favorite blog on the list? Is there a great blog you'd like to see added to the list?
